Masculinity:
- the brown haired lady in red at start: has the last word
-Blonde women are stereotypically there to be looked at, in this case she is masculine as she fights off sabertooth with digger
- Blue top: alpha male, in front with gun in the confrontation scene
-The location: farm/woods, masculine settings.
- Mr West takes power over woman in white coat, threatening: masculine trait.
Femininity:
- Man in pink
- Man with blue top: cowers in the hole while woman fights Sabertooth off.
- red top woman at start: she stubbornly drives off
- Lady in white coat: has power over man at start, dominant
Camera:
- POV shots: man with grey top on zip wire, when fighting sabertooth
- Panning with the sabertooth, framed: important
- High angle shot on woman, she is subordinate.
- Low Angle shot on blue top in confrontation: dominant.
Sound
- Music: upbeat - fast to slow - builds up tension
- Masculine
- When the camera is focused on the man in pink, music is quiet and slow - Feminine
- When the camera cuts to the blonde woman, the music becomes louder and faster - Masculine
Editing
- Sabertooth: CGI
- The pace fastens dramatically when they are attacked by the Sabertooth, cuts during this scene.
- Continuity error: when he climbs to the top of the zip wire, the shot jumps, and he is facing a different way to before.

The Male Gaze: Laura Mulvey
From Dust Till Dawn
1) How the clip constructs & represents gender:
the woman is being watched, 'gazed' at, by the men.
there are two opposites male and female, and the lead female has the power over the man.
2) What stereotypes or archetypes?
The woman is feminine from the way she is presented, and there to be looked at,and the men are masculine, and tough looking
3) How the theories can be applied
The theory we looked at was the male gaze, this was applied when the woman was on stage, and the men were looking at her.
4) The differences and power relationships between gender
The woman had power, you can see this from the camera angles, as she was being looked up at using a low angle shot. The woman and the men in the audience had low power as they were looked down upon by the dancer, from a high angle shot.
4 areas of analysis:
Camera: low angles of woman - shows power. Close ups of sexual parts of body, and facial expression. The woman is in the middle of all shots, so all eyes are on her. the camera shots are showing what the audience are seeing

She has power, her outfit is red, tassels attract them to look at her sexual parts, snake is phallic, flames in the background show power, shes got a pristine body, and her make up enhances her beauty.
Sound: All goes silent when she comes on - gives us only visual senses, music moves with her movements (shes moving slowly), and then she builds up to a climax and the music suddenly gets fast and upbeat, music emphasises her movement
Editing: most of the camera shots are on her, pace is slow, shot reverse shot of her and man when she is manipulating him with her foot, contrast with the main lady and the more masculine lady in the audience.

The I.T Crowd - "Are We Not Men?": Analysis of Gender
In class we watched an episode titled 'Are We Not Men?' of the I.T Crowd in order to compare the expectations of the male gender to the stereotypes. In this particular episode, Moss and Roy are represented as very feminised men in comparison to other men. We watched the clip and as it progress, we analysed Roy and Moss' feminine behaviour against a group of masculine men.
- Moss' behaviour in front of the postman is to appear masculine.
- Drinks milk in the pub, alike to a baby as if he hasn't been socialised to be masculine.
- Handshake and football lingo, hiding immasculinity.
- They both feel the need to conform to the norms of men in the pub and other masculine areas.
- Moss' cockney neck, he is acting in a feminine manner by overreacting about his neck.

The Construction of Representation
In class we explored the meaning of Representation and other coinciding words further.Representation itself refers to how something is presented, such as someone's perceptions of real life or real life concepts. On the other hand, we have Re-presentation which is a construction intentionally put together, such as Eastenders. Eastenders is a re-presentation of reality.
Construction means the process a media text goes through to be shaped and given meaning. This process is subject to a whole range of decisions and is designed to keep the text appealing to the audience, to break it down; construction means how something is put together.
Other words relevant to representation are 'ideology' means a particular idea of how something should be, whereas stereotype means the label someone is given based on their interests and appearance.
Glee is a prime example of a re-presentation as it over exaggerates high school. It re-presents high school as a whole different reality.

In class we created this mind-map in order to pinpoint the different aspects that we need to look out for when looking at Representation.
